UV technology is used in the industrial sector for water disinfection, dechlorination and deozonation. Harnessing the same germicidal rays as the sun, but far more powerful, UV-C provides a reliable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to chemicals.
This natural phenomenon is reproduced inside BIO-UV Group reactors using powerful UV lamps. At 254 nanometres, the optimal wavelength for inactivating microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, algae, yeasts, moulds, etc.), UV-C rays penetrate the heart of the DNA and disrupt the metabolism of cells until they are completely inactivated. Certain chlorine-resistant microorganisms are eradicated (including Legionella, E. coli, etc.) and can no longer reproduce.
The physical and chemical characteristics of the water remain unchanged (taste, smell, pH, etc.). No disinfection by-products are generated by UV treatment. It is therefore not harmful to human or animal health. UV rays are effective at water transmittance levels of 50% to 100%, whether in fresh water, brackish water or sea water. BIO-UV Group reactors are designed to meet the most demanding requirements in terms of water temperature and quality, as well as bacteriological loads.
