The international ballast water treatment convention, established by the International Maritime Organization in 2004 (IMO)<\/a>, entered into force on September 8th 2017.<\/strong> 
Every newbuilt ship must now be equipped with a ballast water treatment system. Old existing ships require a ballast water treatment management plan, need to exchange their water in the open sea and will imperatively have to be equipped with a BWT system before 2025, according to their IOPP certificate renewal.
This regulation concerns more than 50 000 ships worldwide and represents a major evolution in the respect of the environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n
